How wonderful to be in love at 79, with the girl I met in 1957. Some foolish people think it ends with romance. No, it grows; like fine wine older the better. The rough edges are smoothed out (well most of them), and there remains only mutual respect, caring, delight in one another's company.
Well it didn't happen over night; many a time one or both of us might be on the point of splitting, but God always provided a way out of the morass. Much more- each incident led to the strengthening of bonds, understanding, tolerance, appreciation, admiration.
Call it a piquant relationship (I think that quaint French word means something like 'picking at one another'). In a secure relationship it's just a game-- like knocking each other out on the tennis court, something else to laugh about and grow closer over. Fond memories are like the letters from God that Whitman spoke of: ("I find letters from God dropped in the street - and every one is signed by God's name, And I leave them where they are, for I know that others will punctually come forever and ever.")
"For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh" (Matthew 19:5).

So sweet, Larry. What a tender heart you have. And I agree, sharing life with one's beloved is such a delight - a remarkable gift. The mutuality of true friendship makes our lives all the sweeter, truly satisfying the soul, the one soul that you share.
Blessings to you both.
